The San Anselmo Historical Museum

Welcome to the San Anselmo Historical Museum

The San Anselmo Historical Museum, located at 110 Tunstead Avenue in the Town Hall complex, houses an ever-expanding collection of photos and memorabilia highlighting our Town's history.

The Museum offers historical records of the Town's notable people, neighborhoods, businesses, celebrations, and events, including our (occasional) floods. A Timeline traces the history of the area, from the days of the Miwoks to the founding of the San Francisco Theological Seminary and the glory days of the railroad – the industry that put our town on the map. Special displays of local historical interest are on view on a rotating basis. Photographs are regularly on display, with copies available for purchase. Video tapes and oral histories are also available for viewing at the Museum.

The Museum offers a Children's Corner with crayons and San Anselmo-themed coloring books.

The Museum is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to noon, on the first Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on other Saturdays from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. For further information, contact the Museum docents at the these times or leave a message at 415-258-4659.

The Museum is maintained by the San Anselmo Historical Commission, and it is staffed members of the San Anselmo Historical Commission and the San Anselmo Historical Society.

Volunteers are always needed to act as docents or to help with cataloging the Museum's collection. If you are interested, please contact us for more information.
